"Bay Jamming Concert Series" in Corpus Christi

(Austin, TX) ~  The Dust Devils, an award-winning band from Austin, will be kicking off the 2007 season of the Bay Jamming Concert Series, on Thursday, June 7, 2007, from 7:30pm until 9:30pm at Cole Park Amphitheater in Corpus Christi.

The Dust Devils are fronted by husband-and-wife team of Kevin Higgins and Barbara Malteze.  Higgins, a New Folk Finalist (2000 Kerrville Folk Festival) and runner-up in the 2006 B.W. Stevenson songwriting contest (held at Poor David's Pub in Dallas), is the songwriter for the band.  The strength and maturity of his writing propelled the group into winning five Texas Music Awards over the past two years, including “Album of the Year”, “Vocal Duo of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, and “Female Vocalist of the Year” (for an unprecedented two years in a row).  Hill Country Happenings Magazine's “Reader's Poll” recently awarded the group “Band of the Year.” The Dust Devils' newly-released CD, “Change in the Weather” (recorded in Port Aransas in September 2006), remains steady at #25 on the Roots Music chart, as the band bring their “genre-bending” style of music to cross-generational audiences across Texas, performing well over 100 shows a year. The Dust Devils' fans (who call themselves “Stormchasers”), often describe the band's concerts as charismatic and energetic. The group's southern-rockin', country-blues style music can be heard on radio stations all across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, on XM satellite radio, in films/soundtracks and internet radio stations world-wide.

“...(The Dust Devils) are the 'Cinderella band' of Texas!” - Greg Patterson, KHYI radio, (Dallas)

The concert will be especially poignant for Corpus Christi native Eddie Flores.  Flores, who play drums with The Dust Devils, will be reunited with his uncle, 70-year-old Pete Salazar.  Salazar will be making a  guest appearance to perform with the band during the show. “My uncle Pete is my mentor, my inspiration...he got me into playing drums and percussion.  We used to go to the Bay Jamming Concerts together years ago.  We haven't played together live, on stage, in over 30 years. I know this is going to be a night we both will remember,” says Flores with a smile.

The Bay Jamming Concert series has been held every year since 1989.  Free to the public, presented by the Cultural Services division of the City of Corpus Christi's Park and Recreation Department,  concerts are held every Thursday throughout the summer, offering a variety of musical formats. People attending the concert are encouraged to bring blankets and lawnchairs. More information can be found by calling 361/883-0639,  www.ccparkandrec.com
